The lecture series and panel discussions focus on a new way of thinking, perceiving and reacting to situations that may be uncomfortable.  Creating a new way of being, so that all can live comfortably and simply in our island paradise.

Series 1. LGBT in Jamaica

"For the past 4 years, AIDS-Free World has been working to eliminate homophobia in Jamaica. This includes working with civil society groups on the island to document and respond to human rights violations against the local LGBT population. In that time, we have seen a near 400% increase in the number of reported homophobic attacks. In the last few months alone there have been several brutal assaults, including murders and home invasions." ~ Maurice Tomlinson, December 10th 2013

The focus of the lectures will be on how dance affects tolerance, growth and community.

Series 2. Violence

"Social and economic factors have an impact on the state of people’s lives which in turn influence their behaviour. The key objective of this study is to determine which of these factors contribute to the rate of violent crime in Jamaica so that the Government can utilise more effective methods to curb the occurrence of violent crime." ~ Ministry of Planning, Housing and the Environment, Vision 2020 Office.

The focus of these lectures will be to address how the language of dance can redirect energies, frustrations and anger, and how this has been done in communities throughout the world with positive longterm effects.

Series 3. Goat Island

"MANY people — even those exposed and educated -- have admitted that they that they didn't know about Goat Islands prior to the current swell of controversy around the two cays located off the St Catherine coast.  But thanks to the National Library of Jamaica, we've come upon some very interesting facts.  For one, the islands are rumoured to be the site of Scottish pirate Captain William Kidd's looted treasure. Also, a cave with Arawak remains is said to be there, and at one time, they were inhabited by slaves and their owners and much later, by US naval officers." ~ The Jamaica Observer, â€” Compiled by the National Library of Jamaica, September 1, 2013
