Quote on Violence
PJ Patterson: With a global focus that our past Jamaican Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson described in 2008 as “a national challenge of unprecedented proportions”…
Peter Bunting: In 2013 the National Security Minister, Peter Bunting said “despite the efforts of the security forces, I am convinced that only divine intervention can solve Jamaica’s crime problem”…
US State Deptarment: "For calendar year 2011, there were murders (nearly 1,124), shootings (1,322), carnal abuse (637), rape, (738), robberies (3,033), break-ins (3,409), larceny (372), and fraud (121). With a population of approximately 2.7 million people, the number of murders and other violence causes Jamaica to have one of the highest per capita homicide rates in the world. Most violent crimes, especially murder, involve firearms. Violent crime is a serious problem, particularly in Kingston."
Canada: "Since 2010, the Canadian Red Cross has supported the Jamaica Red Cross to prevent violence in communities"
